Banana Ketchup | Slimming & Weight Watchers Friendly

Forget about ordinary ketchup! This Banana Ketchup recipe will be your new favourite condiment. It’s sweet, tangy and totally slimming friendly!

Keyword Banana Ketchup
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Servings 4
Calories 96kcal

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • hand blender

Ingredients

  • 3 very ripe bananas peeled and flesh mashed with a fork
  • 1 small onion peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli deseeded and finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves peeled and minced
  • 3 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce dark or light
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp white granulated sweetener
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • low calorie cooking spray

Instructions

  • Spray your saucepan with low calorie cooking spray and place over a medium heat. Add the onions, garlic and chilli and cook gently for 5 minutes until the onions begin to soften.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the pan and stir well. Let simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to make sure it doesn't stick to the bottom.
  • Take the pan off the heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
  • If you would like a smooth consistency you can use a hand blender on the cooled sauce. Depending on how thick you would like your banana ketchup you can add a little water bit by bit and stir through to loosen it.

Video

Notes

Tip: How hot this sauce is will depend on the chilli. This sauce shouldn't taste too spicy once finished cooking and cooling, just a little gentle heat like a sweet chilli sauce. If you want it hotter you can keep the seeds in your chilli or add an extra one!
Tip: We like this recipe best when using very ripe bananas. Think of the type you would use for banana bread, lots of spotting on the skin and a honey sweet scent when you peel them. You can use less ripe bananas but the flavour will be quite different, more green and less sweet.

One of our favourite fast-food choices used to be the crispy-coated spicy chicken burger. Our version has it all, and you will love how we get the crunchy coating! Irresistible and lower in calories, this burger is just like the real thing and so simple to make. You can also change the spice mix to suit your taste, so if you prefer some extra ‘zing’ then add a little more chilli powder.

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

We like to serve this with our Quick Ketchup on the side

We used panko breadcrumbs instead of tortilla chips. It was delicious 😋
Delicious Low Calorie Lunch!
Make sure you dry the chicken thoroughly.
One of our favourite fakeaways
Super easy to make and simply delicious. A firm favourite in our house. This time I made it into strips rather than a whole breast but kept the ingredients the same.
Delicious and so easy to make
I had to swap out the Chilli Doritos for Tangy Cheese and leave out the Chilli Powder so my son would eat it but it was still yummy
Delicious
Tasted great, used a few extra doritos as we had salad with it, and the calories are low.
Little less Zing
I'm not a great fan of of too much zing so I use a cool tortilla chip with just a couple of spicy ones!
Wow! So tasty... a favourite for all the family
Make sure Doritos as quite finely crushed as they go further, and that the chicken is dry. Put a rack on top of the baking tray so the chicken doesn't go soggy underneath.
So simple and easy to make. A quick and very tasty meal. Made this many times now with different accompliments. I cook 2 and freeze 2 for a later date.

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

How To Batch

Cool within 2 hours of cooking, then divide the cooked recipe into individual servings and freeze immediately.

Delicious
This is one of my new favourite recipes and husband loves it as well, which is a bonus. Make sure you drain off the burger after cooking and use the correct size dish, as my first attempt was too wet and it think it was because the dish was too small
Very tadty
I always use frozen chopped onions which is so much easier than chopping
Used quorn mince and it was yummy
I used quorn mince for a veggie version. I added a bit extra stock to cook the mince, the result was a wetter but slightly crumbly base. After being stored in the fridge it dried a bit and was more like a meat quiche. Taste was lovely.
Really tasty! Well worth the washing up 🙂
I added some bacon as I really like Cheese and bacon burgers! Absolutely delish! My meat shrank from the dish I used, so moved to a smaller dish, Leave to rest at the end before digging in (if you can...)

This ice cream can be made with any frozen fruit as long as you use the frozen bananas as well.

Use bananas with very spotted skins to ensure that they are sweet.

Naughty but nice desert
Well worth the wait for banana freezing and blueberries marinating

Hints & Tips

Make sure that the whisk heads and bowl are really clean and free from grease otherwise the egg whites may not stiffen when whisked.

Really easy to make, and rises beautifully
I've made this recipe before and found that using 3 lemons made the dish really tart, so I reduced to just 2 lemons....perfection. A really nice pallet cleanser after a perfect meal
